Queiroz Unveils Ghana’s 28-Man Preliminary World Cup Squad Ahead of Cardiff Camp

Carlos Queiroz has officially named his 28-player preliminary squad for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, marking the first major step in the Black Stars’ build-up to the tournament. The announcement comes as the team kicks off a training camp in Cardiff, setting the stage for a confirmed friendly against Mexico, while they are close to agreeing a pre-World Cup friendly with Wales.

With the final 26-man roster due before the deadline, Queiroz has laid down a strong foundation, blending experience with emerging talent. The attacking line-up boasts serious punch, led by pacey strikers Antoine Semenyo and Iñaki Williams—both capable of turning games single-handedly. On the flanks, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ernest Nuamah offer width and creativity, while Thomas Partey remains a pivotal figure.

Goalkeeping duties are covered by five custodians: Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Benjamin Asare, Solomon Agbasi, Joseph Anang, and Paul Reverson—ensuring depth and competition at the back.

Notably, Queiroz has brought back key figures who missed recent international action. Baba Abdul Rahman, Abdul Mumin, and winger Ernest Nuamah have all returned to the fold after injury setbacks or prior technical decisions, adding vital quality and balance to the squad.

Ghana’s path to the tournament begins in Group L, where they’ll face England and Panama. Their opening fixture is set for June 17, 2026, when they take on Panama in what will be a critical early test.

The Cardiff camp serves as the launchpad for preparations, with the potential friendly against Wales offering a high-intensity benchmark ahead of the confirmed, tougher challenge against Mexico. Queiroz will use these games to assess form, fitness, and tactical fit before whittling down the 28 to the final 26 who will represent Ghana across the co-hosted tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
